Hi Beelarong Members,

First of all, happy new year to everyone.

We will be having General Meetings on the first Sunday of each month again this year, so if you are interested in taking part in the decision making process at the farm, keep these days free. We will be putting an agenda out soon for the February meeting, so if you would like something discussed, please email it in.

There was a proposal put in by several members this week that we should open up the shed Sunday afternoons during Summer. We will be giving it a go this Sunday, so come along if this time suits. The shed will be opened from 3.30 - 6.30pm Sunday, 24th Jan. The shed will continue to be opened Sunday mornings from 9.00-12.00pm.

We are putting together a newsletter for the farm this year so if you have any ideas or would like to help, please let us know.

It's great to see the effort put in by members during this hot weather to maintain the upkeep of the farm. Thanks to everyone for your hard work.

Finally, just a reminder that it is the allotment holders responsibility to maintain paths around your plot

Cheers,

Hi Beelarong Members,

First of all, welcome to the following new members: Lizz and Justin Hills, Craig MacDonald, Moneelta Sharma, Andrew Coe, Kevin Nash, Nancy Young, Richard Young, Peter Kearney, Brian McAllister, June Brown, Debra WIlkie, Almando and Michelle Anton, Marnie Jobson and Aaron O'Keefe...Whew! If you have any questions about the farm, please don't hesitate to send in an email or talk to any of the members at the farm on our open days (Wed and Sunday, 9.00 -12.00). A volunteer manual is being developed and hopefully ready to give to members soon.

Just a few things that are happening at Beelarong:

GOLD Programs are winding down for the year, so see if you can make it along to those few left to run. There is a compost making workshop scheduled for next Monday, 19th October from 9:30 - 11:30 am. Cost is $5.00. Bookings can be made by calling Joanne on 0432 238473.

The art group has been postponed this Saturday but will hopefully be on next week.

We have a spare place for one member to attend a Community Garden forum this Saturday (17th, 10:30 - 3:00). Representatives from all the major community gardens are meeting to discuss future planning and directions for community gardens and farms in Brisbane. If you are interested in attending, please reply to this email. First reply gets to attend!

Just to let you know, the November General Meeting will determine the make up of the Farm for 2010. We will as a group, decide on the number of committee members and roles of farm positions to be voted on at the AGM (date to be set at the meeting, but hopefully early December). We will also review the year that has been and look at how things could be done better next year. If you want to have a say in how Beelarong is run next year, keep the 1st of November free. An agenda will be out in the next few days.

Sleepers are slowly finding their way into position around the farm. Thanks to Alan, Gary, Peter and Graham for your help at the working bee.

With the hot weather well and truly here, just a quick reminder to allotment holders that it is your responsibility to maintain paths surrounding your plot. If you see some nut grass or other weeds emerging, please pull them out!

Finally below is a recipe from Productive Gardens Newsletter.

Cheers,
